In an effort to lift the spirits of the City of St. Louis in response to the 9/11 tragedy, the Baton Bob character was born. Bob had started walking in Forest Park wearing exercise gear and twirling his baton - an activity learned during his childhood. Bob soon noticed how others were enjoying watching him (and his legs) -- so he decided to bring even more fun, smiles and laughter to his fans by dressing appropriate to the season: reindeer antlers for the December holidays! Soon the costumes became more outrageous and even more fun to see, including the Easter bunny (in a pink tutu) the following Spring! Shortly thereafter Bob received his first interview with the neighborhood newspaper editor of the West End Word- which resulted in a news article entitled "Ambassador Of Mirth!" and Bob retained it as the character's official name. When the public learned the character's first name was Bob, they added 'Baton', which created the signature: Baton Bob!
After becoming legendary in the metropolitan St. Louis area Bob decided to return to the city he had grown to love many years earlier - Atlanta! Since his arrival in 2005, Baton Bob's notoriety and popularity has evolved. Starting in the Midtown neighborhood and gradually through the downtown corridor, the Baton Bob character has captivated Atlanta. Bob has been featured in Atlanta Magazine as one of the city's top 50 personalities and has appeared in a media ad campaign for the new Georgia Aquarium. In June, 2006 Baton Bob appeared in "The Comedy Of Errors" for the Georgia Shakespeare Festival by leading the parade of performers and entertaining the crowd before the show. Baton Bob has also appeared in the pilot episode of LAUGH-OUT, a gay themed comedy show. Bob has made a quest appearance in Atlanta's production of the play, "PEACHTREE BATTLE" for a benefit for Atlanta's Human Rights Campaign. Recently Bob was featured on CNN's website homepage with a seven minute media video produced by TBS-Storyline's Eric Langford. Atlanta continues to embrace the character and Bob welcomes the numerous requests for guest appearances at many local celebratory events and area functions.
FY!: Bob's passion is floral design, and he has over 15 years of work experience in customized "floral architecture" by providing flower arrangements for weddings and other celebrations, and holiday home decorating! Meantime, the Ambassador of Mirth will continue to pursue his mission of simply bringing smiles, laughter and cheer to the lives of Atlantan's - and humankind! PS: Bob's dream is to one day appear on the Ellen D. show -- and to lead the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade!
MIRTHFULLY,
BATON BOB
